Hi! I’m Helen.
I fell in love with cooking and baking ever since I could walk. I grew up in a family of cooks with both my grandparents owning restaurants back in Vietnam. The love for food and cooking followed through to my parents, especially my mom. I would always tag behind my mother whenever she was in the kitchen, watching her make the kitchen come alive, steam traveling through the air as she boils water to make soup or the sound of her clever hitting the cutting board on our small countertop.
At age 22, after realizing I did not want to pursue a career in nursing which I graduated from, I picked up a camera, not having a clue on how to use it, and made my way through food photography. There is nothing like being able to bake and cook in my tiny apartment in New York City that makes me get excited to wake up every morning at 4:30am.
I believe every recipe has a story to it and a whole culture for us to explore and I hope to be able to capture that through photography. If you are looking for photos, you can see some of my work in my portfolio.
I am honored to have been featured in Origin Magazine, Thrive Magazine, the FeedFeed and many other brands.
Besides food photography, I also run a blog called With Helen where I share recipes and lifestyle tips. If I am not holding a camera in hand, I love spending time outdoors, exploring the city and visiting antique thrift stores!
